After almost a month we returned to the school over the weekend. No reason behind this other than not riding for almost 3 weeks due to work.
At 8am it was already quite warm and the school a little on the deep side so i kept the session short. Working on Cash’s reactions to my aids, keeping him forward and working him long to stretch his back out.
Arthritis in his hocks can mean he comes out short and stiff particularly when working straight from the stable. We always start sessions with a good 10 minutes in walk, big sweeping changes of rein, 20m circles before moving into trot and doing the same again on a long rein, pushing him out into the contact and getting his swinging through his back.
Quick canter on each rein and called it a day, feeling much looser now we have a few sessions back under our belt. I think Cash quite enjoyed doing more than walk, lot of snorting and a lovely forward canter 🙂
It has made me question how to manage him through this coming winter to keep him strong through his core, especially as i won’t be riding every day once the clocks change, something to think over in the next few weeks.
Hoping to send off our EquiMind entry and training video in the next couple of days. Anyone interested in entering, mention our name and get 50% off your entry. The offer much more than Dressage classes.
Thoroughly loving our Cranberry Rider By Horse saddlecloth, still looking as great as the day i unpacked it – 10% off at Equissentials Dressage at the moment 🙂
