May 30, 2017
26th May we headed out to our local British Dressage venue to do Prelim 7 and Prelim 14, hoping for our final qualifying scores for the Petplan Equine Area Festivals.
Preparation hasn’t been the best, riding a grand total of 7 times before yesterday. Work has been incredibly busy and somewhat taken over riding time even though we now have lighter nights.
Thursday we tidied Cash up, mane, tail, legs and plaited (thanks to Emma) ready for the morning after. Given the forecast of highs of 27 degrees i was thankful for 10.14 and 10.56 tests, we’d be home and Cash back in the field for Noon 🙂
Headed into the warm up and it was quiet compared to the last time we were here, only us and one other in the indoor arena. Warmed up nicely, a bit gobby at times but soon settled, worked mainly in trot with one canter on each rein before going in.
P7 we rode last time and scored just over 63%, yesterday the test flowed better and the canter energy was a lot better. A little deep at times – homework to lighten the canter – and Cash jogged a few steps in the free walk, leaving us on a score of 65.90% and 2nd place, the winner on 66.59%. Over the moon with the increase in % and the improvement in the canter.
P14 – a test i haven’t ridden before, spent all week trying to learn it, remembering the trot/walk/trot transitions was my main worry… rode the test and felt it went just as well as the first so slightly disappointing with 62.50% as our score but pleased with 2nd place, winner on 65% so looked to be a low scoring class – maybe because it was a Summer regional qualifier?
