First off thank you to everyone who made today possible, Mum, Kayleigh and Emma, without you all it wouldn’t have happened. Thanks also to Suzanne of Health, Happiness and Horses for last nights pep talk, much appreciated! Thanks to Dublin Clothing UK Equiware UK and Equissentials Dressage for all your support 🙂
Today we headed out to our local venue to do our first BD with entries in P7 and P13. The morning ran really smoothly, Cash had retained all plaits and stayed relatively clean so we loaded the lorry, booted up and headed off.
Arrived in good time and worked to 30ish minutes to warm up, not knowing how Cash would be (although i had been reassured he would be fine) i had 2 warm up plans. Thankfully i only needed our usual warm up routine, he wasn’t phased by the indoor warm up or the other horses in with him and he warmed up sweetly.
In we went for our first test and apart from him switching legs just before coming back to trot and a slight wobble on the final centre line i don’t think we could have rode the test any better for where we are at the moment 🙂
We then had a bit of a break between tests so had a coffee and gave Cash a breather and a good boy polo 😀
Warm up for the second test went just as well as the first, the warm up was quieter so we worked a bit more on the center lines with P13 having 3 of them before we headed back in.
I don’t have the sheet back for P13 so this is purely my feelings on how i think the test went and i hope the sheet reflects once it’s posted out….. I think our trot work was better than the P7 and the canter left was obviously better as we didn’t have the lead change. Canter right we struck off wrong before we got the correct one and our final halt had a hind leg slightly trailing.
Overall really pleased with the morning, Cash was a pleasure to take out, the sun was shining and we placed 2nd in P7 bronze with just under 64%.
P13 i’m not expecting to be placed, it was a bigger class being a qualifier and with the mistakes we made i know they will have been costly. However, we have our benchmark to work from, the judge was list 1 and we know our weaknesses where the canter is concerned, plenty to work on over the next month or so.
Rest for Cash tomorrow, probably hack Sunday and dentist on Monday.
