Yesterday saw a very soggy lesson with Hannah, every bit of me was wet and the only dry part of Cash was under his saddle, sadly the poor weather means no photographs to go with the report 🙁
Despite the weather we had a very productive lesson, Cash worked wonderfully in horrible conditions and only tried to turn his bum to the wind and rain when we stood still!
Started off in walk and ran through a warm up similar to what we would be using out at competition…… walk to warm him up over his back, big sweeping changes of rein before into trot. Trot-walk-trot transitions, leg yield and 10/12/15m circles on both rein, making sure Cash is reacting to my leg equally well on each rein.
We then had a canter on the left rein before running through both Prelim 7 & Prelim 13. I need to be more aware of outside rein/inside leg connection and allow a softer inside hand to get the higher marks available. Overall trot work was generally pleasing, centre lines and halts were good. Accuracy, accuracy, accuracy, need to make the most of the arena and be bang on with the markers.
Canter right was not bad, with a schooling whip in my outside hand to back up my leg we got the transitions spot on, need to keep the left side of him tight so he can’t run through his outside shoulder and jump on the wrong lead, right hand up, inside bend, be braver in the trot so he has the energy and impulsion for the transition. Too slow and he sucks back on me and can’t physically make the transition.
Time to put it all into practice tomorrow 😮 I have in my head my aims for the day, for our first BD outing i will be happy if we can hit the 60% marker, i know this is all very much dependent on if we can nail the right canter lead, i need to ride positive and not let that one movement affect the rest of the tests.
It’s 18 months since my last competition and that was unaffiliated with Jay so lots of differences, fingers crossed for a nice day out in the Sun!
Wish us luck!
